How to Register

STEP 1: After applying to Texas A&M University-Central Texas, please fill out and submit the Student Intake Form. The Disability Support and Access Coordinator will review your accommodation requests and will contact you in 2-3 business days to set up a time for an intake session.

STEP 2: To support your request you will be asked to provide documentation of your disability by the date of your intake session. Our Guidelines for Documentation can help you understand what is required. You can also have your doctor use the evaluation form above as a guide to help with appropriate documentation. Documents created through an ARD or 504 meeting are not acceptable.

STEP 3: You will then meet with the Coordinator to complete paperwork and discuss your individual needs. Accommodations can take 1-2 weeks to be approved after this meeting.

Our full Disability Support Procedures are available for viewing as well.

Tuition and Fee Exemption

According to the Texas Education Code ยง54.205, students who are legally blind and/or deaf, as determined by a Department of Assistance and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) evaluation, are eligible to receive tuition and fee exemptions from public universities. Get information on the application process and eligibility.

Your point of contact for submitting pertinent documentation is Gail Johnson at g.johnson@ct.tamus.edu.

First Time Users - Request Accommodation Letters

If you will need alternative textbooks, please submit your request at least 40 business days in advance to ensure timely delivery of your textbooks.

You will need new accommodation letters every time you register for a new course. Please submit your accommodation letter requests at least 10 business days in advance of the start of your courses to ensure that they will be e-mailed by the first week of class. You can request these letters by completing the form above and submitting it to Disability Support. This entire process can be completed online. Within 3-5 business days staff will generate a letter for each course for which you have approved accommodations. During high volume times (first week of classes and finals), letters may take 1-2 weeks to prepare. These letters will be e-mailed to your professors; however, students can request their letters in hard copy format if they prefer to hand deliver them. A copy will also be forwarded to your e-mail address that you provided to this office. At that time, you are encouraged to take the opportunity to discuss your individual needs with your instructors.

If you need to have a test proctored to receive accommodations, please complete this Proctor Request Form at least 1 week prior to the test. Instructors will need advanced notice of at least 7 business days to address logistical concerns.

Filing a Complaint

If you feel that you have been discriminated against on the basis of your disability or accommodations, you are provided the opportunity for a formal and individualized evaluation through the General Grievance Policy, as noted in the Student Handbook. You may also file a complaint of discriminatory treatment with the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights (OCR). You are not required to go through the university grievance policy to file a complaint with the OCR, but the Office of ASP does encourage you to contact us with any complaints.
