Degrees Offered

The Department of English at Texas A&M University - Central Texas offers three concentrations:

  • Literary Studies
  • 8-12 Teacher Certification
  • Professional Communication

Literary Studies provides the communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills valued by today's employers. This concentration prepares students to enter careers in management, sales, and public relations by offering courses in cultural studies, film studies, and critical literary analysis. Students in this concentration are prepared for graduate work in English, law, public administration, and communication.

8-12 Teacher Certification balances education courses in curriculum design and classroom management with content-specific courses in literature, language, and composition. Faculty in this concentration help students articulate and study the place of English studies in a secondary curriculum. This concentration prepares students to enter teaching careers in public or private schools.

Professional Communication provides courses in multimedia design, professional editing, and communication theory. This degree plan prepares students to enter careers in marketing, technical writing, and publishing. Students with a professional communication degree are in high demand, and the skills they obtain are flexible and transferable. Professional communication skills transfer to every workplace, and a career as a professional communicator provides opportunities to do short-term contract work and to work remotely.
