Library Distance Education Services
Mission: The Texas A&M University-Central Texas Library Distance Education Services program aims to provide quality assistance to TAMUCT Students, Faculty, Staff and Community Users seeking information sources remotely by providing digital reference services, online information literacy tutorials, and digital materials. Full DES Mission
TAMUCT Library Services are dedicated to helping you find the resources you need for your courses. Over half of our library collection is located online, making many of our resources available to you instantly from home. We have approximately 25,000 electronic journals and over 55,000 eBooks, in addition to databases that contain diverse resources like maps, government documents, and primary historical sources.
As a TAMUCT distance learner, you can access:
- Digital Journals: Search for electronic journals using Metalib, Google Scholar or specific databases. You can also search for specific journals using Online Journals (SFX). Whenever you see Check SFX for Availability, click to see if you have access to the resource.
- EBooks: Go to the library homepage, click Online Databases, and log onto Netlibrary. You can search the entire text of the library's eBooks, or you can search by keyword, title, or subject. The entire text of Netlibrary eBooks can be read for free online.
- Print Materials: You can ask the library to send print materials to you if you are a qualified distance learner for this service. Students who live more than 50 miles from the TAMUCT Main Campus and are enrolled in a Distance Education Program qualify for this service.
- Online Services: As a TAMUCT Distance Learner, you can take advantage of the same services as our on-campus users. Through our web forms, you can request a Texshare card that will let you take out materials from almost anywhere in the state of Texas, get access to our RosettaStone language learning resources, or ask the library to purchase materials. We are also more than happy to work with you to accommodate any other research needs you may have that are not covered here.
- Virtual Research Help: You can get help with research in lots of different ways, including online research help chats, through email, and by using our subject guides, database summaries and library tutorials. You can even schedule a chat session with one of our reference librarians! Help is available, and our staff will try go out of their way to insure you understand our research tools well enough to succeed at TAMUCT.
