Invited Talks

Ryan Bayless, MFA, Instructor of English, was invited to give a poetry reading and to lead a discussion on nature poetry as religious poetry at the Southwest Commission of Religious Studies in Irving, Texas, March 10, 2012.

Michelle Dietert, Assistant Professor of Sociology, gave a talk for the Social Work Mental Health Course at TAMUCT entitled "Mental Health and the LGBT Community," February 2012

Yakut Gazi Ph.D., Director of the Office of Instructional Design, was an invited panelist on the "Validating Online Learning" panel at the 20th Annual Conference of the Council on Military Education in Texas and the South, Fort Worth, TX, April 17, 2012.

Mary H. Kelly, D.B.A., Assistant Professor in Finance, was invited to Co-Chair a panel discussion entitled, "Current Trends in Higher Education Business Programs: Where are we Now? Where are we Going?" at the annual meeting of the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice in Myrtle Beach, SC, March 28-29, 2012.

Barbara Lyon, Ph.D., SPHR, Professor of Management and Marketing, presented a national webinar on veteran employment for the Society for Human Resource Management, December 2012.

Dr. Lyon also gave a talk on Ethics in Human Resources for the Central Texas Human Resource Management Association in Belton, January 2012.

Jason Northrup Ph.D., LMFT, LPC, Assistant Professor in Psychology and Counseling, presented in a roundtable discussion with Baurlein, M., Doan, A., Pullen, S., Ferguson, C., & Garland, E. on "Technology...a Tool or a Temptation?" at the annual St. Mary's Hall Issues Day, San Antonio, TX, March 2012 .

Allen H. Redmon Ph.D., Assistant Professor of English, was invited to co-chair a roundtable discussion entitled "New Directions in the Field of Religion and Film" at the Southwest Commission of Religious Studies in Irving, Texas, March 10, 2012.

Publications

Barbara Lyon, Ph.D., SPHR, Professor of Management and Marketing, developed the publication, "The Patrtic Promise Veteran Employment Toolkit" for Texas SHRM as part of her service as Workforce Readiness Director for the Texas Society for Human Resource Management.

Luke Nichter, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History, had published his paper "Richard M. Nixon," in Mathew Manweller, ed., _Chronology of the U.S. Presidency_. Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-CLIO, 2012, pp. 1188-1225.

Chris Thron, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Mathematics, co-authored a paper "Modeling South African Service Protests Using the National Operational Environment Model" that was published in Social Computing, Behavioral -Cultural Modeling, and Prediction (5th International Conference Proceedings).

Presentations

Lisa Bunkowski, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History, presented two papers with Amanda B. Hedstrom (research assistant and Central Texas College student) at the Southwestern Social Science Association annual meeting, in San Diego, CA, April 4-7, 2012: "Mourning Poetry: An Expression of Passionate Masculinity in Mid-19th Century Kansas"; and, "Women and Danger in Frontier Coffey County, Kansas (1850-1870)".

Dr. Bunkowski also presented with Alexandra Rains (TAMUCT graduate, History M.A., current Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University), the poster "Community and Continuity: Bell County, Texas, African American Oral History Project," at the American Historical Association 126th annual meeting, in Chicago, IL, January 5-8, 2012.

Anitha Chennamaneni, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in Computer Information Systems, co-presented a paper entitled, "An Empirical Study of the Existence, Relatedness, and Growth Needs (ERG) Theory in Knowledge Sharing Behaviors of Knowledge Workers", Proceedings of the IADIS International Conference on Information Systems, Berlin, Germany, March 10-12, 2012, ISBN: 978-972-8939-68-7 © 2012 IADIS.

Kellie Cude, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, and Dorleen Hooten, Ed.D., TAMUCT Certification Officer, presented the paper "Novice generalist and content teachers' perceptions of the impact of interpersonal relationships on personal teaching efficacy" at the International Conference on Interpersonal Relationships in Education, April 2012.

Dr. Cude also presented the paper "Process Writing Development in Emergent/Early Writers" at the American Educational Research Association, April 2012.

Michelle Dietert, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sociology, presented with Dianne Dentice the paper "Growing Up Trans: Socialization and the Gender Binary" for the Southwestern Social Science Association (ASA) Conference, San Diego, CA, April 2012.

Dr. Dietert, also presented the paper "Restrictions on linear isomorphisms between spaces of smooth functions on compact manifolds" at the AMS Spring Eastern Sectional Meeting - George Washington University, Washington D.C., March 17-18, 2012.

Yakut Gazi, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Instructional Design, presented the paper "Trends in Distance Education as Reflected by TxDLA Conference Presentations" at the 15th Annual Texas Distance Learning Association Conference, Dallas, TX, April 15-18, 2012.

Mary H. Kelly, D.B.A., Assistant Professor in Finance, co-authored a paper with Radhames Lizard, Ph.D., entitled " Monetary Policy Convergence in the NAFTA Region: Evidence from Cointegration Analysis and Contagion Effects," that was presented at the Allied Academies Conference in New Orleans, LA, and published in the proceedings, April 3-5, 2012.

Dr. Kelly also co-authored a case study with W. D. English, Ph.D., entitled, "A Case Study for Finance Courses: Is Michael Milken More Friend or Foe of the Financial Markets?" that was presented at the Federation of Business Disciplines Conference in New Orleans, LA, February 27-29, 2012.

Dr. Kelly also co-authored a paper with Margaret Britt, D.B.A., and students entitled, "An Example of Excellence: Why Military History is Re-Emerging in the Business Curriculum," that was presented at The Institute for Business and Finance Research Conference in Honolulu, HI, and published in the proceedings, January 3-5, 2012.

Coady Lapierre, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, and Richard Yeager, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychology, presented a paper with Priscilla Teixeira, Elizabeth Brown, Jacob Thomas Singer (students in the Psychology program) at the Southwest Psychological Association annual convention, Oklahoma City, OK entitled "Homeschool Motivations and Perceptions," April 13, 2012.

Season Mussey, Ed.D., Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Instruction, presented the paper "Navigating the Transition to and Through College" at the International Conference for Interpersonal Relationships in Education, April 2012.

Allen H. Redmon, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of English, presented the paper "'I Will Destroy Him': The Place of the Spectator in the Coens' Early Apocalyptic Visions," at the SWTX regional meeting for the PCA/ACA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, February 8-12, 2012.

David Ritter, D.B.A., Associate Professor of Accounting, presented with John Shampton PhD, JD, the paper "Who are you? Identifying Online Students for Assessment Purposes" at the Southern Academy of Legal Studies in Business at their meeting in San Antonio, March 2012.

Awards and Professional Appointments

Michelle Dietert, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sociology, was named the Coordinator/Director of American Democracy Project (ADP), March 2012.

Larry Garner, Ph.D., Director of School of Business Administration, was elected President for the Annual Conference of the Federation of Business Disciplines, March 2012.

Mary H. Kelly, D.B.A., Assistant Professor in Finance, earned a Distinguished Research Award for a paper co-authored with Radhames Lizard, Ph.D., entitled " Monetary Policy Convergence in the NAFTA Region: Evidence from Cointegration Analysis and Contagion Effects" by the Business Studies Academy, April 2012.

Dr. Kelly also earned an Outstanding Research Award for a paper co-authored with Margaret Britt, D.B.A., and students entitled "An Example of Excellence: Why Military History is Re-Emerging in the Business Curriculum," by The Institute for Business and Finance Research, January 2012.

Allen H. Redmon, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of English, was elected to the Executive Committee of the Southwest Commission of Religious Studies, March 2012.

David Ritter, D.B.A., Associate Professor of Accounting, was appointed as Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Mustang Journal of Accounting and Finance.

Chris Thron, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Mathematics, was awarded a Fulbright teaching fellowship at the University of Maroua in Cameroon for the year 2013.
